Next Challenge adds Thomson Reuters as Partner

We are thrilled to announce that Thomson Reuters, a global leader in news, information and technology, has joined the Next Challenge for Media & Journalism. As a Next Challenge partner, Thomson Reuters will join WarnerMedia, the Google News Initiative, Knight Foundation, the Lenfest Institute, Temple University, TechNexus, Supernode Global and others in providing judges and mentors to engage with startups throughout the competition.

“This is great opportunity for Next Challenge startups,” said Jeff Freeland Nelson, executive director of Glen Nelson Center. “Thomson Reuters is among the most respected companies in the media industry with operations that bridge five continents. Connecting with Thomson Reuters is yet another reason for media startups and student teams to get involved and apply for the competition.”

The Next Challenge for Media and Journalism is a national competition seeking groundbreaking startups and student-led ventures that will reinvent media over the coming decade. Over 20 weeks and numerous digital events, the Next Challenge will showcase both for-profit and nonprofit early-stage media startups based in the United States.

The Next Challenge is committed to promoting equity in media, embracing the demographic shift occurring in communities across the country and investing in startups with diverse teams. A primary goal of the competition is that the majority of judges, mentors and first-round applicants identify as BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and/or female.

Entries are open at thenextchallenge.com and will be accepted through Nov. 19.
