Glen Nelson Center launches new businesses that combine the core competencies of American Public Media with the flexibility and innovation of start-up ventures.

These experiments apply new solutions to emerging opportunities and embrace risk as a vital component of innovation.

Gender-diverse companies are 15% more likely to outperform their national industry median, and ethnically diverse companies are 35% more likely to outperform. Yet in 2018, only 6% of venture capital went to women owned businesses while less than 3% went to African American and Latinx founders.


Powered by Knight Foundation and located at the Glen Nelson Center, Lunar Startups is a new model for startup incubation specializing in growth, connection, and innovation for women, people of color and other high potential entrepreneurs.

Lunar Startups uses a one-year cohort model to provide value to start-ups by increasing access to business acumen and social capital, while connecting founders to a supportive peer community and new customers.

NewSignal Studios is a pilot branded content production company based at Glen Nelson Center. NewSignal Studios will leverage APMG’s significant audio and technology production capabilities and allow Glen Nelson Center to experiment with new production techniques and technology platforms while generating earned revenue.
