As an entrepreneur, you’re likely building something never built before, which can be as isolating as it is invigorating. It’s easy to get stuck in your own head as you create a brand-new product. How do you know your project will actually gain traction? How do you know if your strategy fits your potential customers’ needs?

Whether you’re developing a new business model, re-iterating a product, or honing in on your ideal customer profile, soliciting rapid feedback can lead to creative breakthroughs. Kate Downing Khaled, Founder and Managing Director of strategy consulting firm Imagine Deliver, recently facilitated a rapid feedback exercise as part of a human-centered design session for Glen Nelson Center’s Ventures in Residence cohort. Ventures in Residence used these prompts to generate feedback for profiles of other cohort members’ ideal customer. Following each company’s presentation, Ventures in Residence cohort members had roughly two minutes to jot down a feedback statement on a post-it note for their fellow cohort members before moving on. After reviewing their feedback notes, each company presented their ideal customer profile again. Just two minutes of feedback led to new insights for every single company, and a deepened understanding of how to better serve their ideal customer.

At Glen Nelson Center, we believe that innovation thrives in community. Problems are revealed faster, and so are solutions. That’s why we organize monthly workshops for Ventures in Residence cohort companies as well as monthly consultations with our management team.

If you’re not building your company in a shared workspace, we encourage you to seek opportunities to solicit feedback from key stakeholders, colleagues, and other community members based on the feedback prompts developed by Imagine Deliver. Not only will you provide your colleagues with a helpful launch point, you will also generate a diversity of responses that skip superficiality.

Rapid feedback can sometimes feel uncomfortable -- that’s to be expected. But rapid feedback from the people who matter is key to generating solutions that push your company out of an endless planning loop, and into actionable next steps which are the key to growing your company.

Imagine Deliver’s Rapid Feedback prompts were inspired by concepts developed at the Stanford d.school.
